About our foundation

The BFND Band Foundation was formed in early 2024 to support the Cy-Fair High School Band program. The very active Band Booster organization successfully supports the current members and families, while the foundation is aiming to manage a long term endowment fund and alumni support from past members, families, and the Cy-Fair community. Eighty years of alumni now have an avenue to get connected and show their support that will help ensure longevity and continued success to our beloved band program and what it offers young people and the community.

Our mission is to ensure the long term success of the band program and strengthen the reach and opportunity it offers to its students.

“As the mother of a young man who marched and is now pursuing music education, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power that band and music bring to a student’s life — and that is why I am committed to ensuring every deserving student has the opportunity to experience it.”

Why the foundation

Director

Secretary

Patrice Lange

I am so thankful for my son’s time in the Cy-Fair High School band program.  Our family has a long history in fine arts, and I knew the experiences he would have in such a fantastic organization would help shape him into a great human being.  The leadership skills and work ethic developed in this program will serve him the rest of his life.  Additionally, my uncle, John Scarcella, was the first Director of Fine Arts for Cy-Fair ISD, and I know he would be pleased that our family is continuing to help CFISD fine arts be the best it can be!  Thank you Bobcat Band Family!!

“Band gives students opportunities to grow in so many ways.  It teaches you about relationships, Leadership components and it gives opportunities to test your leadership and relationship skills.  I think about that a lot as I am many years away from my high school days and how my leaderships skills have grown.  Band does require a talent for music and an instrument but it also allows you to grow and form the human you want to be in the world.”

Director

John Nelson

“I will always treasure my connection to this band program and with the efforts of this foundation, that connection will be made available to even more students than ever!”

All 3 of my children have been through the band program now at Cy Fair HS. Although each of their experiences was very different, many of the skills and lessons learned along the way are the same. Hard work, determination and commitment to excellence has become part of who they are. There is a sense of community one becomes a part of and it pushes them to push each other towards a common goal, supporting one another along the way and becoming better humans as a result. It has been an honor and a blessing to witness these kinds of transformations not only in my own children but all we have met along the way.

Vice President

Belinda Whatley

“My son and daughter began in marching band for the instant community it provides as they began a new chapter in high school. This program and culture of patience, persistence and excellence has grown them in more ways than we could have imagined. I have had the privilege and joy of watching my children and many other band students push through obstacles, cheer on their classmates and bring their absolute best to something greater than themselves.”
